So, let’s talk real quick. I know the new year just started. A lot of people are hopping on the fitness train. That’s cool and all BUT are you taking care of your body after those workouts/runs?
I just started back running on January 29th; my first run since June 2018. Shout out to my Nike Run Club app for reminding me that it’s been so long since my last run. When I started back I went full force. Completely forgetting that your body needs to be prepped before you start running. Here are a few tips to make sure that you are properly taking care of your body while running.

For a little extra pampering, I like to apply coconut oil to my body after I get out of the shower and a foot balm to nurture my feet.
-
Drink 8oz of water at least 30 mins before your run
-
Stretch a little. There’s no need to do any super crazy stretches here. Keep it simple.
o Ankle rolls
o Hip rotations
o Knee circles
-
Start out slow and then gradually increase your speed. Pace yourself.
-
Make sure your shoes are straight. Shoes lose their edge after a few runs. Especially if you run a lot. Treat them like you would treat your car tires.
-
When you’re near the end of your run, have a cool down period. Then finish it out with a goooood stretch.
-
SOAK THEM LEGS!!! Soak in warm/hot water with Epsom salt. Helps to relax your legs and get them back into shape. 1-2 cups of Epsom salt for 10-20mins up to 3 times a week should do the trick. This is especially good to do if you experience tightness in your legs after a run.
